Telegraph Staff Reports
North Platte’s own Lindy Quaney began her reign as Miss Rodeo Nebraska 2004 Saturday night with a dinner and auction in her honor.
Miss Rodeo Nebraska 2003 Lynn Welker asked Quaney, "Are you ready to start the greatest year of your life?" right before crowning her.
More than 300 people attended the dinner and auction in Quaney’s honor.
Quaney was named Miss Rodeo Nebraska 2004 on June 18, 2003, during Nebraskaland Days, but she didn’t officially begin her reign until Saturday.
During the six months leading up to Saturday, she has been learning a great deal about what her duties will be this year.
"The last six months have helped me get prepared for my year," Quaney said.
She recently attended the National Finals Rodeo in Las Vegas. Quaney said that attending the NFR for the Miss Rodeo America pageant was a great experience and will help when it is her turn.
Nebraska has had four girls crowned Miss Rodeo America, including Lori Bortner, who was Miss Rodeo America 2003. At this year’s competition, Miss Rodeo California was named Miss Rodeo America.
Quaney said, "We (Nebraska) have an excellent committee to help us succeed."
She will travel upwards of 20,000 miles during her year as Miss Rodeo Nebraska.
Quaney is an assistant recruiter for North Platte Community College. She said she is most looking forward to coming home for Nebraskaland Days this summer.
